Academic Programs
 

The Department of Chemical System Engineering at the University of Tokyo aims to contribute to the sustainable amenity society. Emphasizing on the design and the systematization of constituent factors to control and analyze chemical phenomena ranging from molecular level to global scale, we have produced chemical technologists and researchers who are rich in analysis and synthesis thinking skills.

Undergraduate Program
Undergraduate program emphasizes discussion-style coursework, practice, experiment, and graduation thesis. The curriculum consists of fundamental chemistry such as physical chemistry, quantum chemistry, chemical reaction, organic chemistry, and inorganic chemistry, and fundamental subjects of chemical system engineering including chemical engineering, reaction engineering, process system engineering, and environmental system engineering.

Graduate Program
Considering research as the most important part in the graduate studies, we have established such a system in which students can receive various advice not only from their supervisors but also from other faculty members. Coursework in the graduate level has been considered in two categories. One is in-depth advanced subjects bridging undergraduate coursework with practical research, e.g. reaction system engineering and materials system engineering, and the other is cross-disciplinary advanced subjects, e.g. environmental system engineering and energy system engineering. There are domestic and overseas internship programs, practice school, and special courseworks by professional experts as part-time lecturers, offering students opportunities to acquire problem solving skills and working experience.
