Various properties can be added to materials by controlling their structures at a nanometer-scale. In such nanotechnology, we especially focus on the bottom-up method in which nanomaterials are synthesized from atoms/molecules and devices are built up from nanomaterials. Both by experiments and modeling, we are learning natural laws at nanometer-scale basically, and developing a self-organization process for practical nanomaterials production at a macroscopic scale. Specifically, we are fabricating semiconductor nanoparticles and polymers by wet-processing, and nanotubes and nanocrystalline films by dry-processing, and applying them to information devices, solar cells, and healthcare. We are also actively conducting cooperative projects with private companies.
